Planning for Christmas

June 15th, 2011 -

Christmas should be a happy time for all New Zealanders, but sometimes the financial pressure can cause stress and unhappiness over the holiday season.

Here are some tips for helping you to avoid some of the problems that can occur:

  • Set a budget and stick to it. Work out how much you can afford to spend based on how much you can save and how much you will earn immediately after Christmas.
  • Don’t feel pressured to buy toys that you cannot afford. With a little imagination you can find affordable gifts for kids that will make them forget about the latest gadget or toy.
  • Give yourself time to compare prices when shopping for gifts. Prices often vary a lot and shopping around can save you a lot of money.
  • Don’t forget to compare prices at physical stores with those online. Online stores can offer considerable savings due to lower operating costs.
  • Time can be the greatest gift of all to your family. If you can think of fun games and activities for the whole family everyone will enjoy the time you spend together at Christmas.
