Credit unions raise over 60k for Chch Earthquake Relief

June 22nd, 2011 -

The New Zealand Credit Union Foundation who administers the Colin Smith Memorial Fund received a massive total of $63,880.88 in donations for the Christchurch Earthquake Relief Fund.

The money came from 18 NZ and Australian Credit Unions, WOCCU and 12 individuals. Such generosity of spirit is very much appreciated by those credit unions members who were able to apply for and receive hardship allowances when under so much psychological and financial pressure.

Applications were reviewed and approved at lightning pace by the New Zealand Credit Union Foundation Committee members, Bruce Buckley from NZCU Baywide, Selwyn Screen from NZ Employees Credit Union and Gary Dalton from NZCU South and the hardship grants were quickly distributed by the NZACU Accounts Department. To date 114 members of NZACU South and 2 members of NZCU North have received $47,000 in hardship grants.
