NZCU Baywide October Newsletter

October 6th, 2011 -

Gavin EarleMessage from Gavin

It was fantastic to see the support at last month’s AGM, which was extra special as we celebrated 40 years of people helping people. It was also pleasing to be able to share the positive financial results for the year. Over the coming weeks I plan to visit each community with a representative from your board to share, in person, the year’s highlights with you – our member-owners. Further detail on when we will be visiting your region will be available in branch, on our website and on our Facebook page.

 40th AGM
At our AGM held at the HB Opera House on 26 September board, staff and members came together to celebrate 40 years. Long standing director Bob Strong reminded everyone of NZCU Baywide’s history and long standing members were acknowledged for their on-going support.

We were also proud to announce the year’s financial results (a copy of the annual report can be downloaded here). Highlights included:
• Operating profit (before fair value adjustments) increased by 50% to $1.066 million
• Bad and impaired loans expenditure decreased by 33%
• Total assets increased by 12% to $168 million

Credit Unions build a better world
This is the theme of this year’s International Credit Union Day. Credit Union members across the world will be celebrating on Thursday, 20 October and NZCU Baywide is no different. Watch out for planned activities at your branch either at www.facebook.com/nzcubaywide or www.nzcubaywide.co.nz

Can you save money on your loan?
Are you paying too much for your personal loan, credit card or hire purchase debt? One real life example shows a member saving over $4,000 on a $6,000 loan at NZCU Baywide!

Changes to interest rate calculations
As announced at last month’s AGM, from 1 January 2012 NZCU Baywide will be changing the way interest is calculated and the frequency of when interest is paid for on-call savings accounts. We are doing this as we believe you will be better off from these changes. You should earn more interest if your monthly account balance fluctuates and receive your interest earlier.

First home buyers – rescued from rent
Our ‘rescue me from rent’ home loans have already helped many families into their first home. Read how Willie and Ang were rescued from rent here: http://www.nzcu.co.nz/success-stories/first-home-buyers-rescued-from-rent/

Supporting World Cup Teams
NZCU Baywide is getting in behind the World Cup with a cross organisation initiative. Each branch within NZCU Baywide has been allocated a World Cup team to support. So during the World Cup a number of activities are planned at NZCU Baywide’s branches from Gisborne, down to Wellington, across to Taranaki and everywhere in between.
