GCC Walking Challenge Completed

September 9th, 2011 -

Over the past 16 weeks NZCU teams have been virtually walking their way around the world.

NZCU Baywide was the first local business to take up the challenge from Wattie’s to participate in the global corporate health initiative. The GCC is a 16 week pedometer-based activity programme with employees, in teams of seven encouraged to walk 10,000 steps per day and record the steps they walk online at www.gettheworldmoving.com. NZCU Baywide’s HR Manager Louise Alexandra explains the benefits,
“It’s a fact that the healthier people are, the happier they are and the better they will perform. This benefits the business through productivity and decreased absenteeism. Also, as the GCC is a fun team-based event, this is great for staff morale.”

During the 16 weeks the 29 Credit Union teams walked over 225 million steps, 144 thousand km and burned 9 million calories!  The challenge now is to keep up the good habits for the next 36 weeks.
